A mask is an enigma - a visual contradiction that simultaneously reveals a surface while hiding what's behind. Wearing a mask doesn't just hide who you are; it projects an entirely new persona. This creates a situation where two conflicting truths exist at the same time:
The external illusion: What the mask displays to the world.
The internal reality: The thoughts and motivations of the person underneath.
